Six Fears Holding You Back
If you’ve thought about joining a gym and talked or worried yourself out of it, you’re not alone. Almost everyone who walks into FRVR FIT has had the same thoughts, fears, and worries too. Here are the six fears I hear most often during Intro Visits, and what we do to make the gym less intimidating.
Six Fears That Get In The Way
“I don’t know what I'm doing in the gym.”
That’s a reasonable worry. Most gyms hand you a membership, show you around, and leave you to guess how to use the equipment. I'm actually intimidated by all the machines in a typical access gym too! At FRVR FIT, you never walk in and wonder what to do. Every class is coached from warm-up to finish, with each movement demonstrated and explained. You’ll always know what’s coming and why we’re doing it, you’ll have a coach nearby if you have any questions or need modifications, and you always have a clear plan of progress based on your own goals so you know you're on track.

“I’m afraid I won't be able to stick with it.”
This is one of self-trust. Will I be able to make it a consistent habits? If you're like most of us you've started multiple times in the past only to fizzle out after a few months. At FRVR FIT, the average time a member sticks with it is 20 months! That's more than twice as long as the industry average of 9 months. Yes, starting something new and fitting it into busy daily life requires effort. One thing we talk about during the Intro Visit is your schedule and how you might be able to fit the gym in. Some members start with 1-2x/week and some with more. It's not about getting to the gym every day. It's about what you can realistically do and starting there.
Many of our clients start with specific goals and really what they stick around for is the connections and support they get from coaches and fellow clients.
"Joining FRVR has been one of the best decisions I’ve made! The coaching is top-notch, the atmosphere is awesome, and the people make it even better. I’m seeing results faster than I expected and feeling stronger every day. Love the team energy and friendly competition that keeps me pushing harder. Couldn’t ask for a better place to train!" [5 star review from Kelsey last week.]
“I feel out of place at the gym.”
Many gyms are built for people who already look fit and already know what they are doing, so this feeling makes sense. Our gym is intentionally different. Our members range from first-timers to people who’ve been lifting for years, and they’re nurses, teachers, parents, and professionals of all ages and sizes. Nobody is being judged or compared, and everyone is working on their own progress. Everyone is genuinely happy when you show up.
“I don’t know how to lift weights.”
Nobody does at the beginning, and lifting well is a skill that we teach step by step so you get appropriate amounts of work and not too much. Our On-Ramp sessions start with foundational movement patterns, learning the form and skills with lighter loads, and add weight only when your technique is ready. Our progressive system gives every person a workout matched to their current level, so a beginner and a pro can share the same class and each get what they need.

“What will other people think of me?”
At FRVR FIT, here’s what people actually are thinking: they’re focused on their own set, their own effort and form, and they are probably wondering the same thing you are. "Is anyone watching me?" They’re also cheering each other on. There’s real laughter, plenty of encouragement, and the quiet pride of watching someone hit a weight they didn’t think they could. Members often tell me the gym is their daily highlight because of how they feel after a workout.
"I can't afford it"
This might be a big one and If it is I understand. Inflation keeps going up with no end in sight forcing us to work harder and longer and find ways to make more income just to get by. I hear this more than I wish I did "I've been paying a gym membership for 6 months and only went 4 times." The most expensive gym membership is the one you don't use or the one that doesn't get you results. The question you need to ask yourself is this...Is my long-term health and strength worth the investment? I know your answer is going to be "yes". I also know you can figure it out on your own like I did over a period of 5 years (and that was with making it a huge priority). You can also save years of effort, stress, and even gain years of life back by investing in your health today with a gym membership that is going to get you results. Personal coaching isn't cheap and we have options ranging from $150 to $750 per month.
Many of our clients wouldn't do without it after a few months. I'm confident you'll say the same thing.
